Morandi Series 
I have been mining Giorgio Morandi’s work for several years, making small paintings on panel that include birch bark. I wanted to see these shapes as single shapes in the print format - without any foreground, background, or shadows. With a background that includes printmaking, I had the idea of creating the individual shapes as templates that could be used recto or verso to ink up and print. I’m attracted to the strong iconic nature of the shapes in black and white whereas the paintings explored the objects in the color and shadows of the environment.
The pieces on view are enlarged from the original prints made from these templates. Editions are based on enlargement size and the work shown is from the Morandi Series II Group.
