Jeff Fichera

"My paintings are all done on-site, from direct, protracted observation of the subject. I don’t paint from photographs or from memory; the truths I want to record can only be found in the actual experience of light existing in space and reflecting off forms. And by “truth”, I don’t mean any sort of objective truth about the way things are, because such a thing is impossible. All observations are subjective. When confronted by a human consciousness, reality is utterly transformed into personal terms- objects become metaphors, colors suggest moods, spaces contain memories, textures imply movement. And so the painting is not the record of the place, but the record of the artist seeing."
