Nancy Rutter

I take my inspiration from nature, fascinated with the tonal interplay of color and form. Columbia County, part of the Hudson Valley in New York State, a special place of varying beauty and vistas where the ever changing atmosphere and patchwork of light and shadows that dance across the views provides me with continual inspirations.

I love to rearrange and simplify nature transformed into abstract forms and brilliant color. The seasons can refine the palette, starting from small pastel sketches and then working on a series of canvases which evolve from this starting point to an unpredictable end. This journey, sometimes successful is what keeps me on this course.
