is proud to present new photographs by Lependorf & Shire
along with paintings by gallery newcomers Trent Miller
and Deborah Zlotsky. The exhibit will run from July 13
through August 13, 2006 and an opening reception for the artists will be
held on Saturday July 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend. > >Stan
Shire & Shelly Lependorf have been
collaborating on photographic works for the past three years. Their
current series evolves from an inner response to light and spatial content
of the terrain that generates an illusion of reality. What is real and
that which is elusive forms a place to experience the newly formed
connection. Working with a sense of the textural elements of the
landscape, they transport them toward a modality that morphs into the
final imagery. Of the work Lependorf states, “We begin with a classical
foundation based on traditional landscape painting and photography.
Playing to the horizon, as the place of change, is the transformational
zone. Finding this point of subtle transition is left to the viewer.” > >Trent
Miller’s primary material for his work is derived from his
life. His recent paintings have portrayed nighttime scenes, particularly
interiors with window views. Miller states, “I like the idea of a painting
that feels as if you are entering a dark place where your eyes must adjust
to the atmosphere and space. I am thinking of this darkness as I move
around the interior of the canvas and find my way through the objects in
the paintings. I’m interested in how objects seem to meld together at
night and the spaces that exist between these objects/forms.” This is his
first show at the Carrie Haddad Gallery. > >Also new to the
gallery is painter Deborah Zlotsky who will be showing
intimate still lifes containing imagery from a variety of sources – art
history, contemporary art, and everyday objects. Zlotsky’s book series
pays homage to artists who have had a profound effect on her. She
explains, “By painting the reproduction, I placed the work in the context
I had experienced it (in mediated images such as books and catalogs),
hoping to reveal both the intensity and inadequacy of such an experience.” > >Carrie
Haddad Gallery is located at 622 Warren Street, Hudson, NY.
Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday from 11am to 5pm. For more
